Energy Efficiency On An Archipelago

When you’re on a huge island, like an archipelago style one as Japan is, you need to figure out ways to conserve power and energy. Japan is a pretty large island chain. But considering the amount of usable land that it actually has to the number of people and businesses that are there, most would consider it to be quite small. When you’re small, and have little room for generating electricity, you need to find ways to cut power uses.

Businesses in Japan since the early 70’s have been trying to figure out ways to cut energy costs. With the cost of oil rising and the amount to buy power from the grid high, businesses in Japan are leading the world with their energy saving technologies. They have gone beyond the simple changes like switching to fluorescent lighting and using solar technologies, they have literally begun to explore dozens of options.

As this article states they are years ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to conserving power. So if you think that in this country that we really are doing something about our energy issues, you may think twice after learning more about what Japan is doing.
