If you have not visited an island on vacation lately or ever at all, then surely you have studied up on some or seen some interesting information about them on TV. Islands have their own culture. The people that live there have their own histories and their own tales that seem to circulate where they live. Some islands have deep dark mysteries, others have very little to do with the outside world at all. Many native tribes used to inhabit many of these islands before they were packed with people as some of them are today.

But these cultures can really be rich with history. Take WWII for example. It may have affected a small island more than many people realize. Tribes have often been found to have been deeply affected by troops that were stationed on these islands where they live. It would have been the first time they would have ever seen planes, trucks and so on. So the next time you visit an island locally, consider taking in some of the local history there.
