Island Living Off the Grid

I am sure most of us by now have heard about off the grid living. If you have not, basically it means that you can live in a location, live there without having to use much power, water and other resources from the outside world. A scenario might be you moving to a far off island, raising your own meat or dairy, growing your own food, using solar power and collecting rainwater to drink. Now of course these are just a few things to consider if you want to live off the grid.

But living totally off of it can be impossible. If you do move to some remote archipelago, then you may want to consider some things.

Do you get regular shipments there? I mean does FedEx or the USPS deliver? If not, you need to take that into consideration. Also, what kind of markets and shops are there? It is tough to grow all your own food. You may need to consider networking with others that have the same goals.

Then, no matter where you are, some country/government monitors most of the world. So, more than likely, you’re paying taxes to someone. Keep this on mind no matter where you decide to move. If you’re living in this world, you’re on some sort of grid. You will never be totally off of it but still could enjoy a few of the freedoms from grocery stores and monthly electric bills.
