Islands have always been a popular getaway for tourists and people looking for an exotic new place to call home. But lately have these remote destinations been getting more or less popular?

Here are some reasons that people are staying away for now:

1) The economy has not just been bad in the US. The world’s economy has been in a slump just about everywhere. What happens is that people end up having less money to travel with or none at all. People also fear having large vacation budgets. Vacations closer to home usually cost much less.

2) Too costly. Travel prices have gone up, salaries and savings for many have decreased.

3) Natural disasters. There are some people that watch the news and see the devastating tsunamis and hurricanes and think to themselves that they do not want to put themselves in harms way.

Sure group number 3 may be small, however add it in with the other two and more factors that are not listed here and the problem just compounds.
