It’s Man-Made
Believe it or not there are islands in the world that have been man made. By dumping tons of natural materials in the waters, countries have decided that they can raise their own islands. Amazing! For example, a smaller example, in Chicago they made the 91 acre Northerly Island. In their failed bid to get the Olympics there, they had planned on expanding it and redeveloping the area to suit the summer games.
The island appears in most ways to look like any other, so how do they do it? Well it is assumed tons of planning and engineering come into play. Usually islands are at the mercy of the waters. High tides and low tides can change the structure of the islands shores annually. These are just naturally occurring forces in nature.
But when you make your own island, you have to take into account high and low tides. You also have to take into account erosion. It’s amazing though that now we can literally build our own island. In one sense it seems scary; in another it seems kind of neat.
