Are you considering traveling to an island soon? -Possibly a honeymoon or great vacation? Remember when you travel to one of these great places to visit, you are more than likely in another country. And in that country they have laws. Those laws are there to protect its citizens. Remember though that the laws they have could be drastically different than the laws you are used to. For example, if you hit another driver with a car, you could get a more serious punishment than you may be used to where you are from. Now of course if you are purposely breaking the law in one way or another, penalties for breaking those laws may be very stiff for tourists.
A suggestion may be to study the laws of the country you will be visiting. That way you will have a base understanding of the laws that you will be expected to follow. Make sure that you educate yourself on the driving there if you plan on having a rent-a-car. You do not want to find yourself driving on the wrong side of the road!
Islands are big vacation spots for the retired or the honeymooners out there. But large families also love going to islands for vacationing to get away together. They love leaving everything behind, their lives, their phones, jobs and school to be together for a glorious few days on some remote island somewhere. Here they can be a family again without all the busy activities bogging them down. When was the last time that you got away with your family and left what you could behind? This can be a good time to get away and just relax and enjoy each others company.
Many people head to islands for the relaxing beaches and pretty ocean views. They love to soak in the sun, swim in the ocean and maybe going boating or diving if they are up for some adventure.
But it is more inland that other people love to go. They love to explore the more mountainous regions or look into old volcano cores. They like to hike in the tropical forests areas and see new places. It may be wise no matter where you go to take a guide along with you. Islands usually are small, but you can still get lost easily.
The great thing about heading to some islands is that there can be many of them to choose from. Usually islands have many other islands surrounding them. So each individual island may have its own features and interests. If you get with a local boater, they more than likely will be used to taking tourists on tours of all the islands.
This can be a great traveling experience. You can relax and enjoy one island for several days and take tours of the rest of them when you want. The choices are yours and can be quite enjoyable no matter what you do.
Many islands that have no population to them have quite the wildlife populations on them. These islands are everywhere in the oceans of the world. Many countries that own them decide to turn them into some sort of wildlife sanctuary. These places that are protected by these governing bodies are great ways usually of preserving the wildlife typical in those areas. Birds are often huge residents on these islands. Bird sanctuaries can be found all over the world today. Changing seasons bring these migrating visitors to these places from all over the world. Some also tend to be permanent residents because the climates are perfect for them to stay year round.
Sometimes these places are open to tourists under very controlled situations. People are not allowed to wander off by themselves and disrupt the flow of things there, but they can go and gaze at the animals they love in these protected places. Some people feel these islands can be a waste of money, but most tend to think it is great to let the animals just live naturally with no outside interference. No matter what you think, these sanctuaries are here to stay.
Do you love history? Often people love visiting sites with big time historical significance. The same goes for islands as well. There are some islands that have a great amount of history to them. Imagine some of the battles in World War II between the US and Japan. Those islands have a ton of significance to them that is for sure. The Galapagos Islands where Darwin went, and just recently some remote islands where Amelia Earhart supposedly crashed her plane on her journey that landed her a spot in time forever.
So if something like this interests you, check online to see who offers insight into island history and see who may be offering tours. These could be an amazing way to relax and enjoy history.
The oil spill in the gulf has the eyes of the world on what is happening ecologically. Certainly the states of Mississippi, Alabama and Florida have much to lose if the spill is not capped and soon. Many fishermen have already lost tons of business and may end up folding all together if something is not done quickly. There are smaller islands near Alabama like the Dauphin Islands. This bird sanctuary is truly under the gun when it comes to the spill severely affecting it. These smaller islands have everything to lose and nothing to gain from this type of spill. If the oil were to wash ashore, then the birds that live there, especially along the coastal portions and beaches, may lose their lives. They are trying to cap the spill but have not succeeded as of yet. Each day they say over 200,000 gallons of oil spill out. So for many of these areas, time is certainly running out. For some businesses and wildlife, it sadly already has.
